Where we stand
No one stands nowhere.
A history chooses what to count and what to leave out.
Those who say they stand nowhere are hiding.
We are not hiding.
Here is where we stand.
A thing is true or it is not.
A lie is a lie when it is useful.
It is a lie when it is beautiful.
It is a lie when a billion people say it.
The line is hard to find.
We look for it every day.
But it is there.
A grave is not a story.
Men made borders and ranks and laws.
They did not make pain.
They did not make hunger.
Power can bury a fact.
It cannot make it false.
A person is more than a group.
We stand with one man, one woman, one child.
Not with a class or a race or a party.
We do not see oppressors and victims everywhere.
We do not see power behind every truth.
A person chooses, and answers for it.
The Party promised to free the people.
Then it set out to remake them.
It ruled by the lie.
- It made people say what they knew was false.
- It made children denounce their parents.
- It broke the ones who told the truth.
- It killed millions and called it progress.
That is evil.
We are against the Party because we are for the Chinese people.
A hard judgment needs hard proof.
Every fact here has a source.
Every source can be opened.
When we do not know, we say so.
When we are wrong, we say that too.
The fight between ideas will go on.
We are not afraid of it.
A lie needs guarding forever.
The truth only needs finding.
No one can lie to himself about it for long.
That is why it wins.
That is why it is beautiful.
