百花齐放
1956年5月，毛泽东推出了“百花齐放，百家争鸣”。受了苏联大震荡的刺激，他自认新中国老百姓深得人心，便号召全国文人和知识分子畅所欲言，大鸣大放帮共产党整风，治治干部的官僚主义。被整肃怕了的学者们起初闭嘴不敢言，毛泽东一次次拍胸脯保证绝不抓辫子打棍子，大家才真以为春天来了。

After Mao invited open criticism of Party work styles in the spring 1956-1957 Hundred Flowers movement, the Central Committee reversed course in June 1957, labeling over 550,000 intellectuals, journalists, lawyers, and students "bourgeois Rightists" and dispatching them to labor camps and internal exile.

性质
百花齐放本是毛泽东自命不凡的一出阳谋。他原以为读书人只敢骂骂基层科长贪小便宜，万万没想到大家一张嘴，直接把矛头对准了“党天下”和一党专政的根子。毛泽东恼羞成怒，立刻翻脸不认账，把阳谋变成了猎枪。中国知识界短暂的言论春天，眨眼就变成了漫长残酷的冰窖。
