毛泽东出席莫斯科会议
1957年11月，毛泽东坐专机再去莫斯科，参加十月革命四十周年庆典。这回他不再是当年受冷落的小媳妇，而是自命为国际阵营的大教主。借着苏联人造卫星上了天的威风，毛泽东在克里姆林宫高喊“东风压倒西风”，甚至谈笑风生说原子弹打死全世界一半人也没关系，剩下的一半还能接着建社会主义。

After Mao invited open criticism of Party work styles in the spring 1956-1957 Hundred Flowers movement, the Central Committee reversed course in June 1957, labeling over 550,000 intellectuals, journalists, lawyers, and students "bourgeois Rightists" and dispatching them to labor camps and internal exile.

莫斯科会议让毛泽东的自信心彻底发了疯。赫鲁晓夫说苏联十五年赶上美国，毛泽东立刻在台上叫板：中国十五年赶超英国！带着这股狂热劲头飞回北京，他把所有的经济常识全扔进了垃圾桶，大跃进和土法炼钢就此出笼。他那套拿几亿人命不当回事的狂话，也把赫鲁晓夫吓得心里直打鼓。
