苏联取消核技术协定
1959年6月20日，莫斯科给北京发来一封信，正式宣布取消两年前答应给中国的原子弹模型和图纸。赫鲁晓夫正忙着去美国戴维营同艾森豪威尔喝咖啡谈和平，根本不想让毛泽东手里拿到原子弹。老大哥单方面取消协定，把捷径给堵死了，但也逼着中国下决心自己硬啃。

苏联取消核协定，说明在莫斯科眼里，跟美国平起平坐搞美苏共治，比拉扯一个脾气暴躁的中国重要得多。毛泽东被激怒之后，把这天定为596工程代号。在大饥荒最残酷的年头，老百姓吃草根树皮，国家却调集一切资源强攻两弹，中苏战略同盟彻底成了一张废纸。
